ACCESSORY POWER PORT

For 1997-2003 C5 Corvettes

1997-2003 Corvettes have a factory installed connecter under the dash in the passenger area that can be used to connect 12 volt accessories. Our accessory power port simply plugs into that connector, and provides a cigarette lighter-type socket that can power or charge an additional device, or just plug in an existing device out of sight under the dash, freeing up a console socket, and avoiding wires running out of your console, around your gearshift, etc. These days, with so many portable devices needing power or charging, it's difficult to make do with only two power sockets. This accessory power port has a 3' cord to enable conveniently locating it under the dash, or enable routing under the console next to the front of the passenger seat.

DO NOT use this or any accessory outlet with a cigarette lighter heating element to light cigarettes. Only use a cigarette lighter element with an approved cigarette lighter socket, as that is designed to repeatedly take the temperatures and stresses of the high temperature heating element. Most accessory power ports are designed for lower power usage for items such as cell phones, radar detectors, mp3 players, etc.

This accessory power port is set up as a "switched" port, meaning that is on when the ignition is turned to ACC or ON, and is off when the key is off or removed. If you would like this port to be always on, even with the key removed, simply follow the included instructions to reconfigure it to always on.

Note: Remember, with the power port in always on mode, any device connected will always be drawing power, even with the key removed! Even a low power device can eventually drain the battery. Only use this mode if you are 100% sure you need to, and are aware of the possibility of a dead battery.

In 2004, GM discontinued the installation of this accessory connector under the dash. Since it only takes a minute to verify that this connector is installed in your Corvette, we recommend that you always check before purchasing this product. Simply flip open the latches on the carpeted kick up panel at the front of the passenger footwell, and remove the panel. Look to the upper left of the large aluminum box (BCM), and you should see the accessory connector visible above the blue and pink BCM connectors, just to the right of the hook and loop pad that holds the kick up panel in place. The correct accessory connector is black plastic and has three wires - orange, yellow and black.
